It broke...

This post is for anyone who is considering buying a Shimano Alfine 11 internal gear hub!

I have taken delivery of a Shimano Alfine 11 (11 speed internal gear hub) from Rose Bikes Germany, the following is how it arrived at my door in the North of England and what was in the box...

My research had shown that the average price of an Alfine 11 from UK retailers was approx £350 without the sprocket etc, Rose Bikes however were selling the Alfine 11 + the 11 spd rapid fire shifter (standard alfine shifter) and the cog for £282; a cracking price!

It arrived well packaged in a sturdy, undamaged, box (thanks to DHL Germany? and Parcel force UK)

20t Sprocket to combine with a 39t from Crankset to give a gear ratio of 2.0 (low) to 8.2 (high): I used Sheldon Brown's Gear Calculator to workout which combination would suit my touring/commute needs.
